Appeals to observe restraint and prevent ethnic clashes

The Union Home Minster, Shri Rajnath singh met the families of the victims & representative delegations of tribals at Biswanath Chariali. He appealed to the people to observe restraint and prevent clashes on ethnic lines. He assured them of strong action against the terrorists.

While addressing a press conference, Shri Rajnath Singh has called the killings of tribals in Assam a `massacre`. There would be a time bound action against terror, he added. Shri Rajnath Singh also said that the government will not talk to these organisations who indulged in cold blooded murder.

The Union Home Minster also said that the Minister of external affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj spoke to Bhutan government and Bhutan also assured action against terror outfits. The Prime Minister has announced Rs 2 Lakhs compensation to the next of kith and kin of those killed in Assam, he added.

Shri Rajnath Singh said that the Centre has already despatched 50 companies of CAPFs to Assam, and Paramilitary forces along with the state police and the Army will undertake a coordinated action against the terrorist organizations. Shri Rajnath Singh said that the Centre has instituted NIA probe into the Assam Killings. He also appealed to different sections of the society to maintain peace and tranquility in Assam.

Yesterday, the Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh has assured all possible assistance to the Assam government to combat the terrorism. He chaired a high level meeting at Guwahati to review the situation after the killing of tribals in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi, the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Joel Oram, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju and the Home Secretary, Shri Anil Goswami were also present.

While addressing the `Unified Command`, Shri Rajnath Singh said that the killing of the tribals in the state was like an act of terror and it was totally unacceptable. He instructed the state agencies to take on the bodo militants operating in the region and Centre would provide all assistance in this endeavour.
