Union Home Minister launches Goa Governor’s CD celebrating Hindi

MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju unveils online crossword, Q&A and audio-books on Munshi Premchand’s short stories at Department of Official Language website

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh launched an audio CD of song titled “Hindi Bharat Maa ki Bindi” written by Smt. (Dr.) Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa, at a function here today. Lauding Dr. Sinha for her creative works in Hindi despite a hectic political career, Shri Rajnath Singh directed that the playing of the CD should be made mandatory at Hindi Diwas functions and the CD widely circulated across the country. He also commended the Department of Official Language (OL) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for promoting the use of Hindi in computers.

Addressing the gathering Dr. Sinha said that she is very intimately linked to Hindi literature and is also proud to be the first brand ambassador for the Prime Minister Shri Naerndra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju later unveiled the “Online Hindi Shabd Paheli” (online crossword on Hindi words), “Online Hindi Prashnottari” (online Hindi Q&As) and a compilation of short stories by renowned Hindi author Munshi Premchand on the website of the Department of OL: www.rajbhasha.nic.in. Shri Rijiju said that in the era of Information Technology such interactive quizzes and popular short stories will draw the interest of internet users to Hindi.

Speaking on the occasion Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya said that Hindi is the most scientific of all languages and is not difficult to pick up.

Secretary (OL), MHA Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava noted that in line with the Union Government’s Official Language policy through Inspiration and Promotion, these online themes will help widen the Hindi vocabulary knowledge bank of Central Government employees and generate an affinity in them towards the use of the Official Language.

Every week a new set of Multiple Choice Questions will be uploaded under the Hindi Q&A page on the OL Department website. Questions will relate to subjects including OL policy, Hindi spelling and grammar and Hindi literature. The Department has also uploaded the best of short stories by Munshi Premchand. This will not only help generate interest in Hindi literature but also sharpen the language skills of internet users. Visually challenged users will also gain as audio recordings of the rendition of Munshi Premchand’s stories will also be available.

Shri Satyavrat Chaturvedi, Convener of the First Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Official Language, Joint Secretary (OL), MHA Smt. Poonam Juneja and Senior Officers of the MHA also attended the function.
