Press Release
Friday, 13 December 2013
The demand for the separate statehood to Telangana region is not a sudden development. It is a long pending issue. The Congress party and the central government have messed up the issue of division of Andhra Pradesh and are still doing so.
From day one, they have adopted short sighted political approach towards this emotive, sensitive and serious issue. The Congress has treated this issue as its internal matter.
The Congress has wasted nine long precious years. They should have tried to analyse and understand dimensions of this decision and could have involved all the stake-holders to evolve a broad agreement.
The Congress is responsible for the present chaos in the State. There is neither clarity nor unity in the Congress party on the issue of Telangana. The Prime Minister and the union cabinet clears the Bill but the Chief Minister of the State and union ministers from Seemandhra region are not only opposing it but are instigating the people and leading agitations against creation of Telangana.
Being the ruling party, it is highly irresponsible on the part of the Congress as it is indulging in double speak. The Union government proposes Telangana but the State Congress is openly opposes formation of Telangana state.
It seems that the Congress led governments are more concerned and motivated by their electoral consideration and lacking the conviction needed to create a new state. Unlike the UPA government, when the NDA government was in power at the Centre it had successfully created three new states without creating any tension or division among the people of the states, thanks to its firm conviction and political acumen to take a complex decision.
The BJP is firmly committed for the creation of Telangana State and is equally committed to safeguard the concerns and problems of Seemandhra region. It is the duty of the Centre to address the genuine concerns, misgivings of Seemandhra people and safeguard the interests of the region while creating the new state of Telangana.
The BJP will highlight all the important issues pertaining to the genuine concerns and demands of the Seemandhra people and build pressure on the government while actively working towards realising the dream of a separate Telangana state.
