A lot more to be done to eradicate Untouchability: Rajnath Singh
Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has said that despite untouchability on the decline, a lot more still needs to be done to root out the social evil from our society. Inaugurating the National Seminar on “Untouchability no more” here today, Shri Rajnath Singh said even the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s campaign ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ is in fact a decisive battle also against untouchability.
Quoting religious and social reformers and political leaders such as Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. BR Ambedkar and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Union Home Minister said that those who sail against the tide are the ones considered brave. Observing that the Hindu philosophy prophesizes that the whole world is a family, Shri Rajnath Singh said this was a very emotional moment for him when he was offered sweets and shared food with the Dalit women, considered social outcasts. Shri Rajnath Singh said there will still be many who will disapprove of his act and make them angry but that he is not bothered whatever be the consequences.
Shri Rajnath Singh lauded Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh International, the organisers of the seminar, for doing a great humanitarian service through action.
