Prime Minister launches the website “Indian Police in Service of the Nation”
Country is more safe and secure at present: Shri Rajnath Singh
The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said that the security scenario has improved and the country is more safe and secure at present. Addressing the 50th Annual Conference of Directors General/Inspectors General of Police of States and Union Territories and Heads of Central Police Organisations in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat today, Shri Rajnath Singh said the security situation has improved in the North-East, J&K and LWE-affected States.
Shri Rajnath Singh commended the Security and Police Forces for controlling the insurgency situation in the North East. There had been the least terrorism problem in Assam this year, he said. The security forces arrested 231 armed terrorists and more than 300 conspirators, he added. The Union Home Minister also said that due to the personal interest taken by the Prime Minister, the Naga problem has been resolved this year. Shri Rajnath Singh hoped the framework agreement the Government reached with the NSCN (IM) will soon pave the way for the resolution of the Naga problem. As regards the ceasefire violation by NSCN (K), Shri Rajnath Singh said that the security forces have been able to control the threat.
On the Maoist violence, the Union Home Minister said that the situation has improved considerably this year. He said that now the losses to the Security Forces are less than the casualties of the Maoists. He said that the IB and the security agencies are confident that the situation in LWE areas will be brought under control within a year. Shri Rajnath Singh said apart from action by the security forces, it is also necessary to win the hearts of the people so that the Maoists do not get shelter.
The Union Home Minister said that the threat of ISIS to India is being monitored and country is confident of overcoming this situation. Shri Rajnath Singh called upon the security forces to remain on guard to prevent sudden serious situation and urged for better coordination between the central and state agencies. He said that there has been the lowest number of communal incidents in the country this year. On Punjab, the Home Minister termed Sarbat Khalsa incident of last month as a matter of concern. He asked the security forces to mount vigil in this border state so that Punjab does not return to bad days of the past.
Shri Rajnath Singh said the Ministry of Home Affairs is making efforts in the direction of implementing suggestions of the Prime Minister, including SMART police and use of social media. He assured that adequate funds will be provided for the modernisation of the police. Shri Rajnath Singh called for police reforms and said the cooperation of the state governments is vital in making it a success. He said that the police stations should be modernized for the convenience of the common man. The Home Minister called upon the DGs / IGs of Police to form an expert group to decide on what all assignments can be outsourced such as ‘Watch and ward’ duties, private cyber labs, traffic control room, passport verification agencies, summon services, private legal services, technical support wing, wireless mobile etc.
Expressing concern on non-registration of FIRs, the Home Minister said that each and every FIR should be registered even if it leads to the increase in number of registered crimes. The increase in data should not be the basis of not registering the FIRs. Shri Rajnath Singh said policing is a service to the nation but unfortunately the grievances of the poor and weaker sections are not properly heard in the police stations. He called for deputing able officers in police training institutions.
The Home Minister appreciated the launching of the website “Indian Police in Service of the Nation” by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the Golden Jubilee of DGPs conference this year. He urged the police forces to regularly update this website. Shri Rajnath Singh earlier presented the Police medals for 2013 and 2014 to IB officers for their meritorious service and congratulated them for their outstanding service. He lauded the role of the police forces and security agencies in building the nation and strengthening the democratic institutions in the country.
