LUCKNOW: On a day TOI launched it’s campaign – ‘Restoring Gomti’s Glory’ – Union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and Union water resources minister Uma Bharti pledged to bring the river, now gasping for breath, back to life.
Singh and Bharti, who were presented copies of the special edition of TOI on Tuesday, which focused on the problems facing the Gomti along its 940-km course from Pilibhit to Jaunpur, were unanimous that the entire stretch of Gomti needs to be rejuvenated for the river to survive.
“It is a good idea to campaign for and work on to rejuvenate the Gomti in entirety. We can work on a plan,” said Singh.
We will work towards a plan to rejuvenate the whole stretch of the Gomti,” said Bharti, who is also the minister for river development and Ganga rejuvenation.
