Home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday declined to see the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as an “external force”. Asked about the RSS, which is seen as the spiritual and ideological guide of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said, “RSS is not an external force. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I are both from the RSS. Where is the question of RSS influence? “The PM and I will remain RSS swayamsevaks all our life.” The BJP has to repeatedly fend off talk of the RSS calling the shots and making key decisions.
