Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on Thursday paid a solemn and heartfelt tribute to Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Param Vir Chakra awardee, on his Balidan Diwas, honouring the unmatched courage and supreme sacrifice of the Kargil war hero.
In a post on X, he said:
“Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, the immortal hero of the Kargil War, carved an eternal chapter of valour with his fearless sacrifice. His bravery was beyond compare—unforgettable and timeless. On his sacrifice day, a grateful nation bows in deepest respect.”
Captain Pandey laid down his life on 3 July 1999 during Operation Vijay, leading his unit of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles to recapture the vital Khalubar peak in the Batalik sector. Under fierce enemy fire, he led from the front, destroyed four enemy bunkers, and ensured the Tricolour flew triumphantly over the captured post.
Though he fell in battle, his indomitable spirit lives on, inspiring generations to come.
