Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on Tuesday paid heartfelt tribute to Major Shaitan Singh, the hero of the historic Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 India–China War, on his Balidan Diwas.
In a message shared on social media, the Raksha Mantri recalled the valour, leadership and supreme sacrifice of the Param Vir Chakra awardee, whose actions at Rezang La have become a symbol of extraordinary courage and patriotism.
Raksha Mantri noted that the heroic stand of Major Shaitan Singh and his company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment embodied the highest ideals of military duty and devotion to the motherland. Their steadfast defence in the face of overwhelming odds remains one of the most inspiring chapters in India’s military history.
“His courage, leadership, and ultimate sacrifice continue to inspire our armed forces and strengthen the spirit of every Indian who proudly stands by the tricolour,” Raksha Mantri said in his tribute.
Major Shaitan Singh, who led his troops in a fierce defence of Indian territory at an altitude of over 18,000 feet, was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour. His legacy continues to motivate generations of soldiers and citizens alike.
